”Tian-an men”, the Gate of Heavenly Peace, is the southern and most famous entrance to the imperial palace in Beijing. When a series of stamps was issued in 1956 depicting famous Chinese buildings, this beautiful gate was one of them. The idea was to depict the gate during sunrise, but due to a mistake the sun is actually setting in the image. When this was discovered the issue was immediately retracted, but a few copies had already been sold.
